New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote a letter to President Joe Biden on X concerning the reports on the unmanned aircraft systems in New Jersey airspace. Within the last few weeks, many reports of drones around New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania were spotted, as many were left wondering about the situation.
Governor Murphy wrote, “I write with growing concern about the reports of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in and around New Jersey airspace. As you are aware, UAS have become a standard feature of American life over the last decade… The proliferation of this technology has introduced additional risks to public safety, privacy, and homeland security, while state and local law enforcement entities remain hamstrung by existing laws and policies to successfully counteract them.”
The Governor writes that since November 18th, there have been sightings in New Jersey airspace. While the Federal government has been looking to address the situation, Governor Murphy asks for more information and support to address rumors and “conspiracy theories” regarding the existence of the drones.
“I respectfully urge you to continue to direct the federal agencies involved to work together until they uncover answers as to what is behind the UAS sightings.”

ABC news received this picture of a drone flying over New Jersey
The Pentagon debunked claims that the drones were being backed by an Iran “mothership.” The FBI stated in a national press release on Thursday that “the reported drone sightings pose no national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus. The FBI, HDS, and our federal partners, in close coordination with the New Jersey State Police, continue to deploy personnel and technology to investigate this situation and confirm whether the reported drone flights are actually drones or are instead manned aircraft or otherwise inaccurate sightings.”
Many have been concerned about the origin and mission of these drones. While the FBI continues to state that these do not pose a threat to the U.S. or its citizens, many remain concerned. The FBI continued in its statement, “Historically, we have experienced cases of mistaken identity, where reported drones are, in fact, manned aircraft or facilities.”
We will continue to follow this story; More to come.
