On June 12, Israel launched strikes on Iran targeting its nuclear facilities. Prime Minister Benajim Netanyahu stated:
“Moments ago, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival. This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this treat.”
Recently, tensions between Israel and Iran have been boiling, as Iran’s nuclear program continued to advance. Iran is not believed to be nuclear right now, but their ability to acquire nuclear weapons seemed to be coming soon. According to the Wall Street Journal Iranian Major Gen. Hossein Salami was killed during the strike. Salami was commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Netenyahu went on to discuss the threat of Iran to Israel and the world, and stated “Today the Jewish State refuses to be a vitim of a nuclear holocuast perpetrated by the Iranian regime.” Iran is a massive financial and military backer of Hamas, a terrorist organization controlling Gaza.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States was not part of this attack nor part of the decision making. “Our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for self-defense.”
Prices of oil and gasoline are quickly jumping, as Americans may see price spikes in the next coming days.
As the conflict continues to unfold, we will wait to see if this attack becomes a major conflict leading to military involvement from both sides.
